English or Continental thread as a pattern seems to have been a 20th century simplification of the Victorian Fiddle and Thread pattern. Occasionally described as having an art-deco aesthetic, the design has been given the Robert Welch treatment as Aston; smooth and refined shape, highlighted with restrained decoration.
